DRESS - URBAN OUTFITTERS

SHOES - DOC MARTENS

This was one of the most fun I've had on a blog shoot in a while! The last collaboration I did was with my friend Owen (you can click HERE to refresh your memory), and it was centered around the Adidas superstar sneaker that was super hot about three years ago or so. I'm back again with yet another style team-up, and it's centered around a shoe... but this time, it's the ever classic Doc Martens!

For as long as I can remember, I thought this boot was the epitome of cool. Stylish, timeless, and easy, I adored Doc Martens for their tough and durable character. I always wanted a pair but never really bit the bullet until my time working at UO years ago. A fun pair of funky, floral Docs that are a super nostalgic nod to the 90's went on sale, and I couldn't resist. At the time I thought I'd have some difficulty styling them, but over time they've become a tried and true pop of color to my usually all black ensembles.

Maya is one of my closest friends, and someone with whom I share the love of fashion with. We worked together at UO, and stayed in contact even after we parted ways. She went on to write an article for College Fashionista, which you can read HERE, and decided to focus on... you guessed it... Doc Martens. When she asked me to team up with her, I jumped on it with no hesitation!

She decided to style her classic black Docs as an anchoring point for the rest of her outfit. Her dress is edgy and city cool, with contrasting textures. Her overall look is on the tougher side, hearkening back to when Docs were the shoe of the punk scene. She also wore a dark lip and some strong statement jewelry, which brought everything together. I wanted to do something different to that, so I chose to pair my funky shoes with an all black ensemble (did I hear you gasp in shock?) which is on the girlier side. I gave the slip dress a little more detailing by throwing on the lace cardigan -- I really enjoy how the bell sleeves added a touch of flair! I tried to keep it a little rock'n'roll with my dark lip and usual stack of rings.

What do you guys think? Which look do you relate to more? Let me know in a comment below, and if your take is totally different tell me how you style your Doc Martens!

If you'd like to check out Maya's instagram, where she also posts her own fashion designs, check her out HERE.

Thanks for reading, and see you in the next one!
