Guys, I know. I just have to point this out before I even delve into the details of the outfit, and the rest of the post... That trash can is killing me. If you kindly look to the upper right-hand corner of your computer screen, you'll see the same trash can in the background of that photo. Shooting in my neighborhood has its perks, but mostly it's a game of 'how-many-times-can-I-avoid-that-trash-can' (and if I can't, how many photos can I crop it out of successfully?) I think it looks truly horrible, but again be patient with me! I'm still working out the kinks and figuring all this stuff out, so hopefully a year from now I'll continue blogging and I can look back on these in my post history and laugh. Or cringe. Probably both.

It was really lovely weather the day we decided to take some photos, but we basically dashed out of the the house in a mad attempt to capture the dying sunlight. Now that it's officially winter, the sun sets at 2pm (i'm exaggerating, but really, it sets around 5. How inconvenient is that? Summer, where art thou?). I had a long and busy day running errands, so as soon as I got home I threw this outfit on and managed not to fall on my way outside.

THIS SKIRT. I am SO obsessed with this skirt. Actually, obsessed probably isn't the right word - it's not strong enough of a sentiment. I live for this skirt. It's one of my all-time favorite purchases of this season, and if you're interested Topshop make them in a lovely maroon color, as well. I've linked the skirt and the sweater above, so click on the store names and you should be able to find them! There are really endless options with this skirt, but being as short as I am I decided to put on a high bootie to make it look like I have at least a couple of inches of leg. I love the length regardless, and the fact that it's faux-leather sold me. It's incredible. It is a bit pricey, but it's one of those pieces that will be in my wardrobe for a long time, and I know I'll get plenty of use out of it.

I picked up the sweater during a random poke-around in Forever 21. I went in there looking for a cream or pastel pink turtleneck, but came out with a couple of other things instead. I consider this item a trend piece, so I wasn't keen on spending a lot of money on it, but this option was affordable so I went ahead and did it. It's really cosy and comes in two other colors, so I suggest you take a look at it! My shoes are from Betsey Johnson, which I've also linked, and they're pretty comfortable despite the height. I love the gold on the bottom as well.

My hat and coat are both quite old pieces, which I managed to re-work into this outfit. I was thinking of binning the coat in one of my frequent and furious closet clear outs, but something made me hold onto it. The little Dooney & Bourke backpack is also one of those pieces I wanted to give away, but something about it is so endearing and youthful - I think the missing 'D' is pretty cute. I felt the colors went together in a really fun way, and it's definitely out of my comfort zone as I am a monochrome lovin' lady, but it's always fun to play around and see what you can come up with.

If you guys have any other questions about anything else I'm wearing, leave a comment below and I'll be happy to answer! This post is super-long winded, but I promise I'll keep the next one short and sweet. I think I'll do a feature on some new items, like a mini-haul, or I'll do a short 'about me' so you guys can get to know me better.
